PAPAI DOIDÃO
Só quando sua mãe Edwiges morreu, os gêmeos Maurício e Patrícia foram informados de que tinham pai vivo.
Receberam das mãos do padre Anselmo, velho amigo da família, um envelope que a falecida lhe confiara para ser aberto pelos filhos apenas após a morte dela.
O padre cumpriu fielmente a sua promessa. O envelope continha uma foto antiga e amarelada de um cabeludo chamado Ivanildo Soares de Macedo e uma carta esclarecendo as razões de Edwiges ter guardado este segredo até a morte: a vergonha por ter sido mãe solteira.
Ao que parece, ela arrependeu-se tanto por ter levado tão longe seu relacionamento com Ivanildo que nunca mais namorou ninguém pelo resto dos seus dias. Dedicou a vida essencialmente a criar os filhos e à religião de que era devota.
Maurício e Patrícia saem à procura do pai, seguindo a única pista fornecida pelo relato de sua mãe: um lugarejo chamado Alhures, o qual custam muito a localizar, já que não estava no mapa.
De fato, Alhures não era uma cidade, um município ou sequer, uma vila. Estava muito mais para uma aldeia do que para qualquer outra coisa. Não havia autoridades, nem políticos. E muito menos polícia.
Patrícia, como advogada ciosa de seus deveres e de sua postura profissional, estranhou muito mais do que Maurício o tipo de vida ocioso e desregrado adotado pela comunidade local. Eles vestiam-se de maneira totalmente informal e lúdica, como os antigos hippies dos anos 70 e, sob muitos aspectos, comportavam-se como verdadeiros indígenas, dispensando mandamentos rígidos e empregando a maior parte do tempo em atividades de lazer e celebração.
O contraste entre a formação tradicional e a origem urbana dos gêmeos e o modo de ser instintivo, exuberante e nada convencional dos moradores de Alhures mobilizará as atenções até a triunfal entrada em cena de Papai Doidão, o Dom Quixote do século XXI, o vulto predestinado a resgatar o importante movimento tribal que teve início nos anos 60 para dar fim às guerras, ao autoritarismo e, principalmente, ao processo de destruição gradual do meio ambiente promovido pela ganância aliada à estupidez.
A busca de Maurício e Patrícia é, no fundo, a busca de toda a humanidade por alguém que nos aponte o caminho a seguir com a convicção e a naturalidade de um xamã, um iluminado, um benfeitor.
STONED DADDY
It was only after their mother Edwiges died that twins Maurício and Patrícia learned they had a living father.
They received an envelope from Father Anselmo, a long-time family friend, which their deceased mother had entrusted to him to be opened by her children only after her death. Father Anselmo faithfully kept his promise. The envelope contained an old, yellowed photo of a long-haired man named Ivanildo Soares de Macedo and a letter clarifying Edwiges’ reasons for keeping this secret until her death: the shame of being a single mother.
Apparently, she regretted having taken her relationship with Ivanildo so far that she never dated anyone else for the rest of her days. She dedicated her life primarily to raising her children and to the religion she was devoted to.
Maurício and Patrícia set out in search of their father, following the only clue provided by their mother’s account: a hamlet called Alhures, which they had great difficulty locating as it wasn’t on the map.
Indeed, Alhures was not a city, a municipality, or even a town. It was much more like a village than anything else. There were no authorities, no politicians, and certainly no police.
Patrícia, as a lawyer conscious of her duties and professional demeanor, found the idle and unregulated lifestyle adopted by the local community much stranger than Maurício did. They dressed in a completely informal and playful way, like the old hippies of the 70s, and in many respects, behaved like true natives, dispensing with rigid commandments and spending most of their time on leisure activities and celebration.
The contrast between the twins’ traditional upbringing and urban origin and the instinctive, exuberant, and unconventional way of life of the residents of Alhures will draw attention until the triumphant entrance of Crazy Dad, the Don Quixote of the 21st century, the figure destined to rescue the important tribal movement that began in the 60s to end wars, authoritarianism, and, especially, the gradual destruction of the environment promoted by greed allied with stupidity.
Maurício and Patrícia’s search is, at heart, all of humanity’s search for someone to show us the way forward with the conviction and naturalness of a shaman, an enlightened one, a benefactor.
